Something To Smile About

For better or worse, one of the first things we notice when we meet someone new is his or her smile. In order to keep your pearly whites, well, pearly and white, choosing the right toothpaste is essential. There is a debate raging about the pros and cons of fluoride, and though much of the products’ effectiveness comes right down to how thorough you are with the application, choosing the right one for you really comes down to a very personal preference. Here are some piquing our interest and making us smile.

JĀSÖN Powersmile Toothpaste In Cinnamon Mint
This West Coast brand, started in 1959, is as known for what it is as for what it isn’t, building its entire line of products on the philosophy that using fewer chemicals is healthier and better for us. This spicy cinnamon-flavored paste is free of sodium lauryl sulfate, artificial colors and sweeteners, and gluten, yet still leaves you with a pleasant tingle and fresh, fresh breath.

BOTOT
It’s perhaps hard to argue with a formula that was originally created by Dr. Julien Botot for King Louis XV of France in 1755. The current owner/maker of the formulation (C.O. Bigelow Chemists) claims it was the “world’s first toothpaste” and the paste is still a favorite, with its natural antiplaque and antibacterial properties and striking ginger/anise flavor.

Marvis Jasmin Mint
Enthusiasts of this Italian-made toothpaste swear that a thorough brushing is akin to a visit to the dentist. That’s a tall order to achieve at home, but the vintage packaging and subtle jasmine (think mild jasmine tea) and mint flavor make it enough of a novelty that you might find yourself wanting to use it more than just in the morning and at night.
